Homemade Play Dough With Color

I was given kits with Glob Colors All Natural Paints to review from the KIWI Shop. When I opened the box I found a recipe for a Homemade Play Dough Recipe inside.

Ironically I have been talking about trying to make this at home for years and after seeing how simple it was, I decided to give it a try.

Final result was it turned out great and was so easy make. Check out how I did it below.

Homemade Play Dough Recipe

Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/2 Cups of Flour

1 1/2 Cups of Water

3/4 Cup of Salt

1 1/2 Tbsp Cream of Tartar

1 1/2 Tbsp Cooking Oil

Homemade Play Dough

Directions:

Combine ingredients in a pan (preferably non-stick) and put on medium to low heat.

Kneading Homemade Play Dough

Stir until mixture forms into a dough ball. Allow it to cool and knead on a floured work top.

Homemade Play Dough Balls

When cool, divide dough into 6 palm-sized balls.

Homemade Play Dough Coloring

Add 1/4 – 1/2 tsp of the Glob color powder to each. Add color slowly and work through until color is fully mixed.

We added the color by putting each ball into a plastic bag and scooping the color into it.

I then pushed all the air out, sealed, and handed them to my kids to mix around in the bag.

Once all the color was stuck to the dough, we took them out and continued to knead in the color.

Once all the color was mixed in, the kids were ready to play with the dough. I was excited because it was the right consistency and worked out great.

  1. I can't tell you how many times I've messed up homemade play doh! This looks great and I love that it is non-toxic and natural! The colors are lovely too.
  2. I remember that I used to love making this stuff for my girls when they were little. I liked making it, they liked playing with it. Win Win lol.
  3. No, I have never attempted to make home made play dough. Heaven knows I bought enough of it for friends children over the years. Definitely a favorite with kids.
  4. I think it is super easy to make but sometimes we don't have time... but really it is the cooling the kids down while the dough cools down :)
  5. It's been ages since I have played with homemade play dough. My mother used to make it when I was younger. My kiddo wasn't ever really interested in play dough.
