Inside Out Inspired Fruit Kabobs with Fruit Dip

My family as been discussing the Disney Pixar film Inside Out since we saw it at the theater a few weeks ago. Basically now when my kiddos see certain colors, they immediately start associating it with the characters of the film.

Even my toddler has taken notice of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear and started calling out their names as we walked by a display while shopping.

Review of Disney Pixar Inside Out from Kids

Now if I can turn something like this into an opportunity to learn something new or even feed my kids a “better for you” snack, then I AM RIGHT ON IT. My children already transformed their love of the film into Loom Band Bracelets, so I decided I would make them a fruit dish that they could enjoy as well.

To recreate this Fruit Kabobs with Dip Recipe Inspired by Inside Out you will need the following:

Fruit:

Pineapple (Joy)

Blueberries (Sadness)

Watermelon (Anger)

Green Grapes (Disgust)

Red Grapes (Purple in color like Fear)

Skewers

melon baller for watermelon

Dip:

1/2 Cup Vanilla Yogurt

1/4 Cup of Mini Chocolate Chips

4 Tablespoons of Powdered Sugar

Directions for fruit:

Use a Melon Baller to cut out the Watermelon and Pineapple. I used a Skewers, 12-Inch and placed 2 sets of fruit on each. Once all the fruit was in place I cut them in half and removed the pointy ends since my kids would be eating the fruit. Tip: Use Skewers, 6-Inch. In the future I would get the smaller skewers and would still remove the sharp ends.  (I just happened to utilize what I had on hand)

Directions for Dip:

Combine yogurt, chocolate chips, and powdered sugar in a bowl. Once it is all ready serve immediately. For safety purposes I would recommend watching younger children with the skewers.

About Disney Pixar Inside Out:

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Disney Pixar’s original new film “Inside Out” ventures inside the mind to find out.

Based in Headquarters, the control center inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.

When Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley’s mind—taking some of her core memories with them—Fear, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge. Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places—Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions—in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters, and Riley.

Directed by Academy Award® winner Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.”, “Up”), produced by Jonas Rivera, p.g.a. (“Up”) and featuring an original score by Michael Giacchino (“The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Up”), Disney•Pixar’s “Inside Out” opens in theaters on June 19, 2015.

Have you seen the film yet? What is your favorite emotion or scene?

Needless to say, it was quite entertaining listening to my kids eat this fruit. I heard, “Joy is my favorite flavor” and “I like Anger flavor the best.”
